The iconic Lazy Lizard Bar & Grill is arguably Caye Caulker’s most famous attraction due in part to its close proximity to the Split. In fact, ‘The Lazy Lizard’ and ‘The Split’ are often used interchangeably to collectively describe this scenic expanse of sea and land now dubbed ‘The Land of the Lazy Lizard’. The Split in Caye Caulker, Belize was originally a hand-dug channel that was widened by Hurricane Hattie in 1961. The Split’s cool, clear, aqua waters is now Caye Caulker, Belize’s most famous swimming area.
